How to plan your answer in 1 minute

A minute is short. Spend it on keywords for each prompt, in the order of the card:

  1. 0:00–0:10

    Choose your answer

Decide on a place with beautiful natural scenery. Pick something real that you know well, so the details come easily when you speak.

  2. 0:10–0:20

    Where this place is

Write two or three keywords, not sentences: a name, a place, a time or a detail you can expand on.

  3. 0:20–0:30

    When you visited it

Write two or three keywords, not sentences: a name, a place, a time or a detail you can expand on.

  4. 0:30–0:40

    What it looks like

Write two or three keywords, not sentences: a name, a place, a time or a detail you can expand on.

  5. 0:40–0:55

And explain why you think the scenery is beautiful

Note one reason and one short example or story. This is the part you can keep developing until the examiner stops you at two minutes.

  6. 0:55–1:00

    Check the order

Number your notes in the order of the prompts, then use them as a checklist while you talk.

I'm going to talk about the stunning scenery I witnessed at Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia, which remains one of the most beautiful natural landscapes I've ever seen. This extraordinary place features a series of cascading lakes and waterfalls that create an almost magical environment. The park consists of sixteen interconnected lakes arranged in terraces, with crystal-clear turquoise water flowing between them through countless waterfalls of varying sizes. What makes this scenery particularly breathtaking is the vivid color contrast — bright turquoise water against white limestone formations and lush green forest, creating an almost surreal visual picture. I visited this spectacular location two summers ago during a backpacking trip through the Balkans. Walking along the wooden pathways winding through the park, I felt completely surrounded by nature's beauty. The roar of waterfalls provided a constant background soundtrack, while mist from cascading water created refreshing coolness despite the summer heat. What struck me most was the pristine quality of the environment. The water was so clear you could see fish swimming and observe rock formations beneath the surface. The lakes change color subtly depending on mineral content and the angle of sunlight, ranging from emerald green to deep azure blue. Every turn revealed a new view equally stunning as the last. I spent an entire day exploring different trails, photographing waterfalls, and simply soaking in the peaceful atmosphere. The memory continues providing a mental escape when I need to recall peaceful, beautiful places.

I want to describe the magnificent scenery I witnessed watching the Northern Lights in Iceland, a natural display that exceeded my highest expectations and created an almost spiritual experience. The Aurora Borealis appears when charged particles from solar wind interact with Earth's atmosphere, creating glowing displays mainly visible near polar regions. I'd seen photographs but wasn't sure whether reality could match images that often use enhanced colors and long exposures. I traveled to Iceland specifically hoping to see this two winters ago. After several cloudy nights of disappointment, the final evening of my trip provided perfect conditions — clear, cold night with strong solar activity predicted. I joined a small tour group traveling to a remote area far from light pollution. What I experienced went beyond any photograph or description. The aurora appeared first as a faint green glow on the horizon, then gradually grew stronger, spreading across the entire sky. Brilliant curtains of light danced overhead — mainly green but occasionally flashing purple, pink, and yellow. The lights moved constantly, rippling and swirling in patterns that seemed almost planned. The most extraordinary aspect was the scale and movement. This wasn't still beauty like a sunset but a dynamic, living display constantly changing. At times, the aurora seemed to pulse in rhythm, creating the feel of a breathing cosmic being. The silence of the frozen landscape added to the experience's otherworldly quality. The experience gave me deep appreciation for our planet's natural wonders and inspired me to seek out more of Earth's extraordinary landscapes.

I'm going to share the beautiful scenery I encountered at sunrise on Mount Fuji in Japan, an experience combining natural beauty with cultural significance that created a deeply memorable moment. Mount Fuji holds sacred status in Japanese culture and has inspired artists and poets for centuries. Climbing it represented both a physical challenge and a cultural journey. I joined thousands of climbers attempting the traditional overnight ascent to witness sunrise from the summit. The climb began at night, following a trail lit only by climbers' headlamps creating a glowing snake of lights up the mountain. The ascent was difficult — steep, rocky terrain at high altitude made breathing hard and each step required effort. However, anticipation of the summit sunrise kept me motivated. Reaching the summit just before dawn, I found hundreds of climbers gathered in peaceful anticipation. As the sky began lightening, the atmosphere became almost sacred — people fell silent, cameras ready, all facing east expectantly. The sunrise itself was extraordinary. The sun emerged from the horizon as a brilliant red sphere, casting golden light across the clouds below us. We stood above the cloud layer, creating the impression of floating in a sea of white cotton. The shadow of Mount Fuji projected perfectly onto the clouds, creating what's called "Fuji's shadow" — a triangular dark shape stretching impossibly far. The memory continues reminding me that sometimes the most beautiful experiences require real effort to achieve, and that the struggle makes the final reward even greater.
