Free: one score per tool, no signup. Your recording is used only to score it and is not stored.
How it works
- 1
Read the question
You get a real Part 1 question from our IELTS question bank. Want another topic? Switch to a different question before you start.

Speak for 20–60 seconds, as you would to an examiner. Recording stops at 60 seconds or when you press Stop.
- 3
Get your band estimate
A speech engine assesses your fluency, pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary, and an AI examiner prompt reviews your answer. You see an overall band and your top tip.
How the band is estimated
IELTS Speaking is marked on four equally weighted criteria: Fluency and Coherence, Lexical Resource, Grammatical Range and Accuracy, and Pronunciation. A speech-assessment engine rates each criterion from your recording in whole bands, and the overall band is their average rounded to the nearest half band, the same rule Lingo Copilot's IELTS practice uses.
An AI examiner prompt also reads the transcript of your answer to check it answers the question (off-topic or filler-only answers are not scored) and to pick the single tip that would help most.
One 60-second Part 1 answer is a small sample: the real test is an 11–14 minute interview in three parts. Treat the band as a practice estimate.
- Same scoring pipeline as single-question practice in the Lingo Copilot app
- Short answers are capped naturally: aim for 30–60 seconds with a reason and an example
- One free score per device; sign up free to see the criterion scores, corrections and a Band 7+ version of your answer

IELTS Speaking scoring: questions
Is this an official IELTS band score?
No. It is an AI estimate for practice. Only an IELTS test taken with an official test centre gives an official band score.
How is IELTS Speaking scored?
Examiners mark four criteria: Fluency and Coherence, Lexical Resource, Grammatical Range and Accuracy, and Pronunciation. Each gets a whole band from 0 to 9, and the overall Speaking band is their average, reported in half bands.
How long should my answer be?
For a Part 1 question, two to four sentences (about 20–40 seconds) is natural in the test. Give a direct answer, a reason and a short example. Very short answers limit the band you can show.
Why only one free score?
Every score uses real speech-assessment and AI services, so each device gets one free score with this tool (with a daily limit per network and a daily total for everyone). Sign up free to take a full IELTS speaking mock with detailed feedback and practise all three parts of the Speaking test.
What happens to my recording?
It is sent to our speech-assessment and AI providers to score it, and we do not store the audio. We keep the score and feedback so you can see the full breakdown if you sign up within 72 hours. To apply the free-score limits we keep only keyed hashes: of a random ID stored in your browser for 12 months, and of your IP address until the end of the day.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It works in current versions of Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox on phones and computers. Allow microphone access when your browser asks.
