A research study on study habits
Interviewer's last question (opinion)
"Some people think students learn better in groups than alone. Do you agree? Why or why not?"
Answer, spoken once in 45 seconds, then pasted as a transcript
"I partly agree. Groups are great for subjects where you need to discuss ideas, like history or economics, because other people notice things you miss and you have to explain your own view clearly. For example, last semester my study group found a mistake in my essay plan that I'd missed for a week. But for memorizing things, like vocabulary or formulas, I learn faster alone, because I can go at my own speed. So I think the best approach is a mix of both."
What to check in ChatGPT's feedback
Did it confirm that the answer takes a clear position and supports it with reasons and an example?
Did it point out any grammar or word-choice errors, without inventing a score?
Are its suggested phrases ones you would say naturally within 45 seconds?
Why it works
- The answer is on topic and elaborated with reasons and a personal example, which is what the top of the ETS scoring guide describes.
- What the round cannot tell you: your pace, rhythm, intonation and how intelligible you were. Those need a scored attempt from your recording.
